چکیده
Abstract Agroforestry systems play an important role in sustainable agroecosystems. However, accurately and adequately quantifying the relationships between environmental factors tree growth these are still lacking. Objectives of this study were to quantify affecting four species develop functional soil maps (FSM) for each agroforestry site. The diameter at breast height, absolute rate (AGR), neighborhood competition index 259 trees from (northern red oak [ Quercus rubra ], pecan Carya illinoinensis cottonwood Populus deltoides sycamore Platanus occidentalis ]) determined. A total 51 topsoil samples collected analyzed, 12 terrain attributes derived digital elevation model. AGR, soil, topography, size analyzed using Spearman correlation. Based on correlation analysis, FSM generated k-means cluster method by overlaying correlated attribute maps. Results showed driving relative properties. spatial variations AGR among units statistically compared within areas with larger identified FSM. This demonstrated that could delineate different oak, cottonwood, trees. did not vary units. may allow land managers more precisely establish manage systems.

Some Soil Factors Affecting Tree Growth.
(1) It becomes increasingly evident that continued root growth with the establishment of new root-soil contacts is necessary for the normal entrance of both water and mineral nutrients into the root. This concept emphasizes the ecological importance of factors tending either to impede or favor the spread and permeation of roots in the soil. (2) The characteristics of soils with respect to (1) a...

Trees improve the soil quality and their rapid growth in the tropics make agroforestry systems potentially effective for establishing low-input agricultural systems in this region. This study assessed the effects of the biophysical interactions among leguminous trees, weeds, cotton and maize in an alley cropping system. The experiment comprised six treatments: Clitoria + Gliricidia; Acacia ...

This paper proposes improvements and revisions to a recent approach in a voting system, and provides an effective approach with a stronger discriminate power. For this purpose, the advantage of a linear transformation is utilized to redene a previously used concept of virtual worst candidate, by incorporating the existing weight restrictions. Then, the best score of this virtual candidate is us...
متن کاملTree growth and management in Ugandan agroforestry systems: effects of root pruning on tree growth and crop yield.
Tree root pruning is a potential tool for managing belowground competition when trees and crops are grown together in agroforestry systems. We investigated the effects of tree root pruning on shoot growth and root distribution of Alnus acuminata (H.B. & K.), Casuarina equisetifolia L., Grevillea robusta A. Cunn. ex R. Br., Maesopsis eminii Engl. and Markhamia lutea (Benth.) K. Schum. and on yie...
متن کاملValuing Soil Conservation Benefits of Agroforestry Practices
Although advocates of agroforestry have promoted soil conservation as one of its primary benefits, empirical estimates of these benefits have been lacking due to temporal and spatial complexity of agroforestry systems and soil resource dynamics. This study aims to reduce this gap by designing and testing a three stage farm level productivity methodology for economic evaluation of soil conservat...
